Yoga Class Descriptions
Basics - This is a class for those who are either brand new to yoga or prefer a slower pace for their asana practice. This class will emphasize proper alignment in yoga poses as well as bringing awareness to your breath and introduce simple meditation techniques. Feel free to start where you are; whether you can touch your toes or not….the rest will come with time and practice.
Open - Ready to sweat? Combine your breath with dynamic movement and you have a vinyasa. Class incorporates healthy alignment queues to ensure a safe and strong practice. This is a more vigorously paced class that is designed to get your heart pumping and build heat. Expect twists, balancing poses, forward bends and back bends as part of a healthy practice. Variations and modifications will be offered for most poses so there will always be something for
everyone.
Upon the discretion of the teacher, more advanced poses may be introduced into the mix so you have the option to learn more advanced variations of twists, arm balances, back bends and maybe even end up standing on your head or on your hands.*
Basically Open - This is a class geared toward more basic level students who want to eventually transition over to an open level class. It's a Basic version of an Open Level class. Class will emphasize proper asana alignment and muscle queues to create more strength to carry you through your practice. This class is a great option if you are trying to re-establish a regular practice or just want to fine tune your alignment.
Gentle Flow - If you enjoy a vinyasa flow, but you prefer to dial it back a bit, this class will leave you feeling yummy. Enjoy the opportunity to really listen to and feel your breath as you transition from one gentle pose to the next. Class incorporates standing, seated and supine poses and has less weight bearing poses than in a traditional vinyasa class. The use of props
is always a possibility.
Sunrise Yoga - Are you an early bird? If so, come greet the day by stepping onto your mat, saluting the sun and setting your intention for the day ahead. Class is an open level format that may be dialed up or down depending on the needs of the students.
Power Hour - You get everything from the open class, just condensed into 60 sweaty minutes.
TGIF Open Level Class - Come shake off your week in this 75 minute fun flow guaranteed to put you in the right frame of mind to enjoy your weekend.
* Body Therapeutics/Methodology(Starting in the Spring) - This class takes elements from both yoga and physical therapy to create a stronger and more stable alignment in the body to help one move in a healthy and safe way both in life and on the mat. Class will incorporate the use of balls, blocks, straps and light weights to create enough resistance to build a stronger foundation than from doing yoga alone.
(Note: Classes are in the development stages and will be rolled out once we assess the needs of our average client who attends Kure.)
Restorative - A class designed to help reset the parasympathetic nervous system so you can just chill out. Relax with blankets, bolsters, blocks, straps and eye pillows in a warm and dimly lit room with soft, meditative music. The experience is simply heaven.
Yin - Need to stretch, but don’t really want to sweat? This class is great for those who just need to lengthen their muscles and feel that openness in their body without any of the vigorous vinyasa. Expect to hold poses from 1-3 minutes at a time. Props always acceptable.
Strive & Revive - This is a 75 minute class that incorporates an hour of open level vinyasa and 15 minutes of restorative yoga to help you step into the rest of your day feeling invigorated, yet refreshed.
